Jose Maria Barrera for Avon Vintage 1980s Granada Black Cabochon and Crystal Necklace and Earrings Set, Gold Tone

A bib of flowing gold vines and leaves that meet in a curl at the centre, holding three glossy black teardrop cabochons and a sprinkling of small bezel-set crystals along the stems. The earrings repeat one teardrop each inside the same curling leaves. The collar section hangs from a chain of large open oval links.

Jose Maria Barrera designed for Avon in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and the Granada pieces are the ones collectors look for: big, sculptural, Spanish in spirit. Black on gold is the easiest statement there is; it goes over a black dress for an evening, or over a white shirt when you want the necklace to be the outfit.

Signed Barrera for Avon on the back. Gold-tone finish with black thermoset cabochons and bezel-set crystals. Necklace about 19.5 in (49.5 cm) long and 1 in (2.5 cm) at its widest, with an adjustable hook that can also be fastened at the front. Earrings 1 in (2.5 cm) wide, 1.5 in (3.8 cm) tall. 1980s.
